Building Strong Families

This initiative targets organizations already engaged in the work with multi-year operating funds in order to implement significant and sustained social change focused on breaking generational cycles of poverty in the Soulsville/South City area of Memphis.

Our anchor investments are in affordable housing, food equity, childhood & adult education, and employment pathways.

KWFF has partnered with the University of Memphis Institute for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership to support this investment strategy. The research project will determine what resources are currently available in the community and which needs are most prevalent, identify where gaps exist, and work with the community to create solutions that will provide the greatest impact.

Central criteria for a Building Strong Families grant might include:

  • Currently doing work that requires support or expansion in the 38126/38106 zip codes

  • Planning to expand existing nonprofit work that has proven successful into the 38126/38106 zip codes
